FILM EDITORS 1939 Republic Studios located in Studio City

This is very typical of a Twentieth-Century editing room, a tiny cell with painted cinderblock walls. The woman at the rear will let film and sound roll through the Moviola in “cutter” mode, wherein the film falls gently into the canvas bag. The other half of the room comprises the film editing bench, where reels of material can be rolled through the mechanical synchronizer.

We never wore suits and ties in the cutting room in the 1970’s and later, so I suspect this may have been formally posed for the studio photographer.
